Summer Events in Breckenridge: June

Ski season has come and gone.  What is there to do in Breckenridge instead of hitting the slopes?  Plenty!

Summer Breckenridge Event: The Breckenridge Film Festival

Early June brings The Breckenridge Film Festival – back for its 32nd year!   The 4-Day event will be held from Thursday, June 7th through Sunday, June 10th.  Its purpose is to inspire, educate and entertain filmmakers and fans alike, and provide an educational, creative and inspirational learning environment.  The festival will showcase a number of independent films as well as provide workshops and opportunities to mingle with the stars.

Summer Breckenridge Event:  Kingdom Days

For starters, Breckenridge’s 5th annual Kingdom Days celebration kicks off the summer on the weekend of the 15th through the 17th. It honors the city’s rich history with a plethora of free events. This includes the well-received Outhouse Races, which is a treat to see, as teams create outhouses with various themes and drag them across the finish line.

Kingdom Days will also host an opening performance by the National Reparatory Orchestra, old time photos, gold panning, and many historical tours and walks.

Summer Breckenridge Event: The Breckenridge Fun Park plus more

The weekend of the 17th also welcomes the annual opening of The Breckenridge Fun Park!  It’s jam packed with thrilling rides (rollercoasters, slides, and 4×4’s!) and also includes pony rides, mini golf, and scenic gondola rides.  If your child claims to be too cool for rollercoasters, there is still hope!  The fun park also offers rock climbing and mountain biking daily.

June 15th through the 17th also marks the dates for another highly loved shopper’s event: The Breckenridge Sidewalk Sale.  Come see what local retailers have to offer – often with deeply discounted items!

More Breckenridge Fun at Lake Dillon Colorado

Lake Dillon Colorado

Lake Dillon Colorado

With the completion of the Dillon Dam in 1963, the Blue River was diverted to form the largest reservoir in the Denver Water system. With almost 27 miles of shoreline, Lake Dillon in Colorado has become a huge draw for sportsmen, nature lovers and families alike.

Activities abound year round, including motor boating, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing, ice fishing, camping, hiking, cross country skiing, and waterfowl hunting. The lake offers a stunning panoramic view of the nearby snow-capped mountain peaks reflected in the crystal clear waters, making it a popular spot for photographers.

Sailing and Boating on Lake Dillon, Colorado

At an elevation of 9,017 feet, the Dillon Yacht Club proudly notes that it is the “highest yacht club in North America.” The club has an active sailing program, and its yearly Dillon Open is widely acknowledged as the state’s ultimate sailing event.

Motorboats share the lake’s strikingly blue water with their wind-powered cousins. Boat rentals can be arranged at marinas in both Dillon and Frisco Bay, depending on which side of the lake you want to depart from.

If something more low key is your speed, try a kayak or canoe rental. You’ll be free to explore the many wonderful inlets of the lake under your own power.

Take a Water Taxi across Lake Dillon

Soak in the scenery and leave the work to the captains; water taxis from Frisco Bay to Dillon and back are available on the hour. It’s an inexpensive way to get out on the water (fares start under $10/person) and take in the magnificent views. A great idea for seniors, families with younger kids, or the party set looking for some fun at the local watering holes.

Winter Activities on Lake Dillon, Colorado

As any visitor to Colorado knows, we don’t let a little ice and snow stop us from having a ball. Lake Dillon is no exception, and hosts a variety of events and activities in the colder months. Ice fishing is huge here; talk to the locals in the outfitter shops for tips on where and when the fish are biting.

If you’re looking for a nice break from the adrenaline of the downhill slopes at Breckenridge, strap on a pair of cross country skis. There are miles of shoreline trails available on Lake Dillon, and the winter scenery is spectacular. Rent what you need at any of the local ski shops, and ask for some advice on choosing the right trails for your ability.

Getting to Lake Dillon, Colorado

Lake Dillon’s convenient location is just one of the reasons the lake is so popular with vacationers. The beautifully scenic lake is located next to Interstate 70 west of Denver. Access the lake from either US Route 6 (town of Dillon) or County Highway 9 (town of Frisco). Come for a day, a week…or longer! There is no end to the activities available on Lake Dillon in Colorado.
